More than a benchmark chart
Graphics cards have always been one of the fastest-moving parts of the enthusiast PC market. A meaningful evaluation therefore needs to separate architectural progress from factory overclocks, cooler design and memory configuration. Two cards based on the same GPU can feel very different if one is quieter, cooler or easier to fit into a real system.
Classic coverage of products such as high-end GeForce boards illustrates how quickly expectations changed during the transition to more demanding 3D engines and higher display resolutions. Reviews from that era often had to consider power connectors, slot space, driver maturity and heat alongside frame rates because the surrounding platform could become the limiting factor.
The same logic still works today. Compare performance at the resolution you intend to use, watch sustained temperatures rather than a brief peak, and listen for the character of fan noise. Then check whether the case can supply enough cool air without forcing every other fan in the system to run faster.
